Lot 194 H. W. Mortimer - London Marked 9-Shot Repeating

and self-priming Flintlock pistol. One of 3 Lorenzoni Flintlock repeating pistols known to exist worldwide; this specimen, another in 1953 Theodore Dexter Scrapbook, and one that sold in London at auction Dec 4, 2019 which sold for $23,500. The pistol measures 19" overall with 10" octagon bbl of medium weight in approximately 50 cal smoothbore. The frame and grip are oversized to accommodate a magazine and operating lever mounted on opposite side of lock (left side). The frame is nicely engraved with scrolls reading "Mortimer-London - Gunmaker to His Majesty" with British Lion and decorative engraving on the balance of the frame. The bbl shows English tobacco brown and Damascus pattern. Circa about 1790-1806. The pistol is cocked, ball seated and pan primed by operating of the lever forward to rear and works nicely. We estimate 9 shots could be repeated by this operation before reloading the magazine. The condition is NRA very good plus with crisp checkering and well defined carving on the butt. A museum quality rarity by the top British Flintlock maker of his era.
NRA very good to near fine. Antique Firearm.
